Firstly I need to admit I got a little out of control buying the Fenty Beauty collection the night it was released on Sephora.nz 😂
it was the result of a few wines, paired with AfterPay! A very dangerous and expensive combo! Since then I have been using Rihanna's makeup range most days since I got it, back in early September, keep reading to find out what products I love & hate.
It's as epic in real life as it looks online 👌. Everything looks and feels super luxe! My favourite feature is definitely the way the contour sticks and mini travel brushes all magnet together, however for travel it does make them a little heavier if you end up purchasing more than 3 (which I did).
THE FOUNDATION & PRIMER:
I'd give the primer a 10 out of 10 for sure, after applying it left my skin feeling amazing and silky. In terms of the foundation, I really struggled the first few time I used it. I used the Fenty Beauty Sponge to apply it (started using it dry and then ended up wetting it) and found it a little hard to apply. However, I later found it applies much better with a foundation brush followed by blending out with the sponge. I definitely love how flawless it makes my skin looks, and have found it really long wearing which is a must-have for me. I have seen people online say it's probably not the best option if you have really dry skin, but in saying that I think it would be amazing mixed with some Strobe Cream if you want to thin down the coverage and have a more of an all-over glow.
I got 2 full sized foundations in 120 and 240 so I'm sorted for when I have a spray tan, I also got two deluxe size samples in 150 and 210. In hindsight 240 was probably too dark even when I'm tanned, so will definitely be mixing it with the lighter shades - but that's always the risk you run when buying foundation online!
The more I use the foundation on myself, the more I am seriously considering stocking it in my makeup kit for EVE Makeup Artistry. I love that there are shades lighter than what I purchased, as I often find M.A.C Cosmetics NC15 (their lightest shade) can still be too dark for some people.
THE CONTOUR STICKS
Like I said earlier I love the packaging of these and the colour options are endless, I got the pre-packed contour Match Stix in "Light" which contains the shades "Linen, Amber, Starstruck and the "Medium" which contains the shades "Bamboo, Mocha, Trippin". I also grabbed the lightest stick separately in the shade "Porcelain" for when I'm super white 😁.
I was expecting these products to be a bit creamier than they are, I found they were a little hard to blend. If you were wanting to compare these to the KKW Contour Sticks, Kim's win hands down in terms of creaminess and blend-ability, but value for money with the amount of product you get Fenty Beauty wins all the way. If you warm the Fenty sticks up under a light/out in the sun they become the perfect texture & consistency, but for me living in Queenstown, when it comes to winter I need something that will work no matter the temperature!
Both "Amber" and "Mocha" are perfect contour colours for my complexion for when I am tanned and natural, the "Trippin" stick makes for the most amazing peachy cream blush or highlight and the shimmer stick "Starstruck" does give an epic glow. However, I find this one applies better when you transfer the product onto a brush and then apply to the skin. When you rub the stick straight onto the skin, it just pushes the foundation away! The highlight/corrector stick soaks into the skin really nicely and once blended giving a seamless transition, the only thing I'd say is there are definitely not concealers.
THE KILLAWATT HIGHLIGHT
Seriously WOW 🙌 these babies are epic! I got the Duo in "Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal and Freestyle in the shade "Metal Moon", they apply beautifully and give you the most amazing glow, I used the travel sized Fenty Beauty Highlight Brush to apply which definitely gives a more intense glow due to the density of the brush, if you wanted something a little more natural I would apply with a fan brush.
THE LIP BOMB:
I was really surprised that Rihanna only did one shade of lip gloss, but I love it and looks great on me when I'm pale and tanned. It is slight tinted, smells amazing and isn't too sticky. Also using different coloured lip pencils under it makes it super versatile. This is fast becoming one of my favourite products, which surprised me as I'm not normally a lip gloss type of gal!
I love the size and packaging of these brushes, I only hate that the Touch Up Brush 130 is a different size/shape and doesn't magnet to the Contour & Concealer Brush 150 and Highlight Brush 140. Other than that they are so great to keep in the handbag and the lids mean they don't transfer makeup onto other stuff. The Beauty Sponge is really great, it's the first sponge I've rated up there with a Beauty Blender and it's slightly cheaper than a Beauty Blender too.
THE SETTING POWDER & BLOTTING PAPERS:
I really like the setting powder as it doesn't leave a white cast, or make my foundation look cakey. It feels really light on my skin and has quite a silky feel to it. I do find I have to re-apply it to my T-Zone maybe once or twice throughout the day, but I still love it. I haven't actually used the blotting papers since I got them! I honestly don't know why I bought them, I never use them haha!
I'd give this collection a 7 out of 10. The foundation took me a bit of time to get used to and if you're not confident with contouring I probably wouldn't recommend the sticks. However, I would highly recommend the Lip Bomb and Killawatt Highlight Powders.
Also a huge plus is that Fenty Beauty is cruelty free and offers such a wide range of foundation colours. In the middle of winter with no fake tan I seriously struggle to find a foundation that is pale enough for me so it's so awesome that Fenty Beauty had made it a hell of a lot easier, and I didn't even buy the palest foundation in the collection!!
Have you tried any of the Fenty Beauty products? I'd love to hear your thoughts on what products you loved and what ones weren't for you.
